“The greatness of America has always
been about the generations who close
the gap between our reality and our
ideals. That requires the very kind of
Beloved Community that [Project 351
Ambassadors] have committed to help
build. We need Project 351 now more
than ever.”
~ GOV. DEVAL PATRICK

ABOUT PROJECT 351
Project 351 reflects Massachusetts’ legacy of civic leadership, innovation, and devotion to social and racial justice. The only model of its kind in the nation, Project 351 annually engages an Ambassador Class of eighth-grade unsung heroes representing Massachusetts’ 351 cities and towns. At a critical stage of youth development, Ambassadors devote a year’s term to develop the courage, compassion, and community of allies required of bold leadership. Rich in diversity, Ambassadors seek to replace polarization with progress, division with decency, and injustice with equity and equality of opportunity for all.
Project 351 is a nonprofit organization entirely funded by the generosity of values-aligned corporations, foundations, and individuals. Our mission is enabled by an impassioned community of education, civic, and community leaders spanning both geography and ideology. With their guidance, Ambassadors annually progress four strategic imperatives through service: their fullest potential as change makers; civically aware and engaged school communities; measurable social change to address the causes and consequences of poverty; and a Commonwealth that is strong, united, and just.
Following their 12-month Leadership Journey, Ambassadors are invited to continue their leadership development as members of the Alumni Leadership Council and Alumni Organization. Alumni hone skills through unique leadership and civic engagement opportunities; mentorship and enrichment, including an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion; and front-line leadership of Project 351 service and capacity-building initiatives. Alumni continue to fulfill Project 351’s mission through purpose-driven professionals as educators and environmentalists, social and racial justice activists, public and mental health advocates, founders of nonprofits and foundations, and enlisted military and Americorps.
