Service Leadership Academy!

Week 1: Our Vision & Values

Each day, we tributed one of the four leadership values that serve as the foundation of our mission. Our most successful and engaged Ambassadors lead with:

  • Kindness: The quality of being friendly, considerate, and warm toward all others.

  • Compassion: The instinct to care deeply about others through greater understanding of their lived experiences and unique traditions and heritage.

  • Humility: The characteristic of being modest, especially when using one’s power for good.

  • Gratitude: Being thankful; demonstrating appreciation and kindness with joy.

  • And, a commitment to build the Beloved Community!

Project 351 works to progress Dr. Martin Luther King’s vision of the Beloved Community, which The King Center defines as: “a global vision, where...Racism and all forms of discrimination, bigotry and prejudice will be replaced by an all-inclusive spirit of sisterhood and brotherhood...Love and trust will triumph over fear and hatred.”

Project 351's commitment to the Beloved Community includes the expectation that words, actions, and friendships are guided by our values. We want to ensure that every Ambassador respects and values the diverse lived experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives of every member of our community. And, commits to build the spirit of 35ONE -- unity that thrives with hope, positivity, and kindness!

STARFISH STORY

This short fable reflects a core belief of Project 351 -- that every one of us can make a difference. And, every act of kindness, no matter how small, is a powerful source of change. "The Starfish Story" is beloved at Project 351 as an important metaphor for how our passion and determination can inspire and mobilize others. Through "starfish", we gain appreciation for the unique impact that each of us makes --- and the unlimited potential for change we can realize when we unite as 35ONE! We hope you love it, too! • It is often said that there is only one Robert Lewis Jr.  But, if Robert had his way, our nation would be robust with leaders who will not quit until every child has the resources, opportunities, and networks to achieve their potential. A son of East Boston with a legendary capacity to love, lead, and serve, Robert is the Founder of The BASE. Located in Roxbury, The BASE leverages a youth’s excellence and passion for sport to achieve excellence and passion for academic, community, and career success. In response, youth thrive, nurtured by the BASE family and the truism: “When you believe you can, you can.”

Robert’s construct for community reflects the profound influence of his Mom, whose love was unconditional and transformative. Robert lives her legacy of love as nationally-renowned leader on urban youth, community investment, and racial and social justice. And, by ensuring that thousands of youth in Boston, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Indianapolis dream, achieve, and soar.
