April 1st: Sanitation Workers

Today's #351GratitudeMoment is a tribute to a workforce that most often works before dawn in the quiet of city streets and on long expanses of country roads -- sanitation professionals. As we sleep, they bring shine to the neighborhoods and homes we love.

We're inspired by the spirit of Aaron Meier, a sanitation worker for the city of San Francisco. In a series of Tweets, he expresses the increased pride he feels, as he provides basic services to help fight the spread of COVID-19.

"Sometimes it’s hard to keep my legs movin’ and I just wanna stop," Meier told "Good Morning America." "But I have a route to do…It started feeling more important to me, like I needed to help the people of my city."

We dedicate this #351GratitudeMoment to Aaron and to these public servants who serve our communities with excellence and pride. And, encourage their recognition through acts of kindness like that of Boston Councilor Matt O'Malley, who posted, "Please join me in leaving thank you notes for our incredibly dedicated sanitation workers (remember to leave one for trash & one for recycling). These men & women are serving on the front lines & deserve our deep appreciation."
